Bringing pets
Entering Mexico with a dog or cat.
Who helps
SENASICA's agricultural inspection office (OISA) at the airport or border inspects your pet when you arrive.
What to do: Check the entry rules before you bring your dog or cat.
Rules
at the airport or border, go to SENASICA's agricultural inspection office (OISA). Pets must be healthy, without fresh wounds or parasites; the carrier must be clean, without bedding, toys or food (except that day's ration). From the US or Canada, entry is usually a physical inspection only. From Aug 3, 2026, dogs coming from the US need a screwworm (NWS) inspection certificate from a USDA-accredited vet, issued within 5 days; cats don't. Check airline rules too.
Common mistakes
- Bringing pet food or bedding in the carrier; missing the 5-day certificate window.
Say it in Spanish
