Solar and off-grid power
Rooftop solar tied to the CFE grid (with net metering), or a fully off-grid system with batteries.
Why it matters
Not required, but it avoids the DAC tariff (step 4.17) and is often the only option far from lines.
Who helps
A solar installer, CFE (interconnection contract) and, where required, a certified electrical inspector (UVIE).
What to do: Choose grid-tied solar or a fully off-grid system with batteries.
Documents
- CFE application, location sketch, single-line diagram, panel and inverter data sheets, a paid-up CFE bill, and ID (the trustee's power if the contract is in the trust's name).
Costs Estimate
- CFE answers an interconnection request in about 13 business days, or 18 if a study is needed. Net metering credits surplus energy against your bill.
- Equipment cost: no published figure; get quotes. Off-grid systems need no CFE contract.
Estimates only. Get written quotes.
Common mistakes
- Racking not rated for hurricane winds (see step 4.7).
- Salt-air corrosion near the coast. Ask for marine-grade hardware.
Say it in Spanish
- Quisiera interconectar un sistema solar con medición neta.
I'd like to interconnect a solar system with net metering.

Common questions
How much does it cost to bring power to a lot?
CFE quotes extensions case by case. Remote lots can be expensive; compare with off-grid solar.
