Your ID number and tax ID (CURP and RFC)
CURP: the national population ID. Residents get it with their card. RFC: the SAT tax ID.
Why it matters
CFE permanent contracts, banking, invoices (CFDI) for construction (needed for your cost basis), and tax filings. Non-residents can also register for an RFC with a passport and a valid FMM.
Who helps
SAT, the tax office, issues your RFC by appointment. Your CURP comes with your resident card.
Documents
- Passport, resident card or FMM, CURP if you have one, and proof of address.
INAPAM senior card (60+)
temporary and permanent residents aged 60 or older can get the free INAPAM card at an INAPAM or Bienestar office (resident card, passport, CURP, proof of address and a photo are commonly requested). It gives discounts on some services and transport, and municipalities use it for senior predial discounts (step 3.6).
Common mistakes
- Registering under the wrong tax regime for your rental activity.
Say it in Spanish
- Quisiera inscribirme en el RFC como extranjero.

Common questions
Do I need an RFC to buy?
Many notarios ask for one. Even if not required, it helps later when you rent or sell.
