Register with the foreign investment registry (RNIE)
Registering the trust in the Registro Nacional de Inversiones Extranjeras (Section III, trusts), run by the Secretaría de Economía.
Why it matters
Ley de Inversión Extranjera, art. 32. Filing late carries a fine of 30–100 daily UMAs.
Who helps
The bank (fiduciaria). In practice a closing attorney often prepares the filing.
What to do: Confirm the bank registered your trust with the foreign investment registry (RNIE).
Documents
- A certified copy of the trust deed and the beneficiaries' details.
Costs Estimate
- Due within 40 business days of the date the trust gave rights to the foreign investor.
- Later changes (avisos de modificación) are due within 40 business days of each change.
- Cost: ask your closing firm; it's often billed at closing.
Estimates only. Get written quotes.
Common mistakes
- The trustee bank files the RNIE notice, not the closing law firm. Ask the firm to request the stamped receipt through the bank.
Say it in Spanish
- ¿Me podría enviar el acuse de inscripción del fideicomiso en el RNIE?
Could you send me the RNIE filing acknowledgment for the trust?
